Title: Community Engagement Coordinator
Location: Aba, Abia State, Nigeria (Hybrid: On-site + Remote Eligible)
About the Organization
An educational media organization is assembling its founding team to build a new knowledge-sharing platform dedicated to preserving thoughtful conversations, educational programming and community engagement.
The organization believes that meaningful conversations should not end when a programme finishes. Every broadcast is intended to become the beginning of an ongoing exchange among listeners, contributors and communities.
This is an opportunity to help build those conversations from the very beginning.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a thoughtful, empathetic and highly organized Community Engagement Coordinator to help cultivate an active and respectful community around our growing collection of educational programmes.
This role is not about managing social media.
It is about nurturing thoughtful conversation.
You will help welcome contributors, encourage meaningful discussion, coordinate listener feedback and strengthen the relationships that naturally develop around educational programming.
If you enjoy helping people connect, encouraging respectful dialogue and building healthy communities, this role may be an excellent fit.
What You Will Do
As Community Engagement Coordinator, you will:
- Moderate online discussion communities with professionalism and fairness.
- Welcome new listeners and contributors into community spaces.
- Encourage thoughtful discussion following programme releases.
- Collect listener questions and feedback for future programmes.
- Help identify recurring themes emerging from community conversations.
- Coordinate follow-up discussions with contributors where appropriate.
- Maintain a positive, respectful and intellectually welcoming environment.
- Support Programme Editors by identifying future programme ideas emerging from community engagement.
- Assist with community announcements and organizational communications.
What Success Looks Like
Success is measured by the quality of conversation.
Successful Community Engagement Coordinators help create communities that are:
- welcoming;
- respectful;
- intellectually curious;
- helpful;
- self-sustaining;
- enjoyable to participate in.
The strongest communities require progressively less moderation because members naturally uphold the culture themselves.
Who Will Thrive In This Role
You may be an excellent fit if you:
- genuinely enjoy helping people;
- communicate with patience and empathy;
- remain calm during disagreement;
- listen before responding;
- appreciate thoughtful conversation;
- recognize opportunities to encourage participation;
- enjoy building communities rather than audiences;
- understand that every interaction contributes to organizational culture.
Previous community management experience is welcome but not essential.
Kindness, maturity and good judgment are considerably more important.
Desired Qualifications
Applicants may come from backgrounds including:
- communications;
- education;
- customer success;
- alumni relations;
- nonprofit organizations;
- public administration;
- psychology;
- counseling;
- community development;
- journalism.
Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
Working Style
This position combines remote collaboration with regular interaction across multiple online communities.
Applicants should be comfortable communicating through messaging platforms, coordinating conversations across different groups and maintaining careful records of community feedback.
Periodic in-person collaboration in Aba will be required.
Why This Role Matters
Communities do not grow simply because people gather.
They grow because people feel heard, respected and encouraged to contribute.
As Community Engagement Coordinator, you help transform listeners into participants and participants into long-term members of a learning community.
The relationships you help cultivate may become one of the institution's greatest long-term strengths.
